St John’s Wort Complex with Ashwagandha - 60 Capsules
Three plants from three traditions
St John’s Wort, Ashwagandha and passionflower come from completely different cultural traditions – European monastic medicine, Indian Ayurveda and the folk medicine of the Americas. Why do they nevertheless fit together perfectly? Because in their respective traditions they have been used for centuries for the same kind of situation: periods when a great deal comes together at once.
This formula brings all three together, supplemented by the essential amino acid L-Tryptophan and vitamin B1 – in two capsules a day instead of five separate products.
0.3% hypericins – why this figure is decisive
“300 mg of St John’s Wort extract” says little on its own. What matters is what the extract has been standardised to – because the hypericin content of a St John’s Wort extract can vary manyfold depending on the raw material and process.
Our extract is standardised to 0.3% hypericins. 300 mg of extract therefore provides 0.9 mg of hypericins per daily serving. Without a hypericin declaration, all you know about a St John’s Wort product is how much powder is in the capsule. Not what it actually contains.
St John’s Wort – Central Europe’s best-known medicinal plant
Hypericum perforatum takes its name from flowering around St John’s Day on 24 June. When the yellow flowers are rubbed between the fingers, a red pigment emerges – hence the old name bloodwort. The botanical suffix perforatum comes from the oil glands in the leaves, which look like fine holes when held up to the light.
200 mg of L-Tryptophan
L-Tryptophan is one of the eight essential amino acids – the body cannot produce it itself and must obtain it from food. It is also the starting substance from which the body forms serotonin and, in turn, melatonin.
At 200 mg per daily serving, it is included here at a relevant dose and is not merely a trace component.
Ashwagandha and passionflower
200 mg of Ashwagandha root extract (Withania somnifera). Ashwagandha is one of the central plants in Ayurveda and the most intensively studied of the adaptogens. We use exclusively root extract, with no leaf components.
100 mg of passionflower extract (Passiflora incarnata). The plant originally comes from the Americas; Spanish missionaries gave it its name because they saw symbols of the Passion in its striking flower. It has been described in European herbal books since the 16th century.
Vitamin B1*
0.6 mg per daily serving, equivalent to 54% of the nutrient reference value. Vitamin B1
- contributes to normal psychological function
- contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system
- contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism
- contributes to the normal function of the heart
Two capsules, one routine
At two capsules daily, 60 capsules last for 30 days. Plant extracts make sense through regularity, not individual servings – a fixed time helps more than any dose adjustment.
Recommended intake
Take 2 capsules daily, swallowed whole with sufficient liquid (for example 200 ml of water). Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

St John’s Wort Complex with Ashwagandha - 60 Capsules
St John’s Wort 5-Component Complex – 0.3% hypericins
With Ashwagandha, L-Tryptophan, passionflower and vitamin B1.*
500 mg can be less than 300 mg
Two St John’s Wort products, two extract amounts – and still no indication of which is more concentrated. Only the hypericin content makes them comparable. That is because it is the measure of the extract’s quality.
Ours is 0.3%, equivalent to 0.9 mg of hypericins per daily serving. With suppliers that do not state this value, the question of quality remains unanswered.
The plant of the bright days
St John’s Wort is the best-known medicinal plant in Central Europe. It flowers around the summer solstice, when the days are longest – and in European monastic medicine it was traditionally gathered at precisely that time and stored for the dark season.
Hildegard of Bingen described it as early as the 12th century. The flowering shoot tips are still the part of the plant from which the extract is obtained today. Our product contains a full 300 mg per daily serving.
Ashwagandha – 3,000 years in the Rasayana tradition
Among adaptogens, Ashwagandha is the most intensively studied plant. In Ayurveda, Ashwagandha has belonged to the Rasayana plants for thousands of years: the group traditionally taken over long periods to maintain strength and resilience – particularly during periods of high demands.
Only the root, in which the withanolides are concentrated, is used for our extract. This provides 200 mg of extract per daily serving with 5% withanolides.
Passionflower – Europe’s evening plant since the 16th century
Spanish missionaries brought Passiflora incarnata from the Americas, where it had long been used in indigenous medicine for the evening hours. In Europe it quickly found the same place and remains in herbal books to this day. Of more than five hundred passionflower species, it is the only one traditionally used for extracts. Our capsules contain 100 mg per daily serving.
200 mg of L-Tryptophan
The starting material from which the body forms serotonin and, in turn, melatonin. Your body cannot produce L-Tryptophan itself – it is one of the eight essential amino acids and must come from food. You obtain it from cheese, nuts and oats, spread throughout the day and never in concentrated form. Here, you get 200 mg at once.
Vitamin B1 – for nerves and psychological function*
Thiamine was the substance from which the term “vitamin” was first coined in 1912. Vitamin B1 supports psychological function, energy-yielding metabolism and the nervous system*. A daily serving of our capsules provides 0.6 mg (54% NRV).
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) contributes to normal psychological function, the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal energy-yielding metabolism and the normal function of the heart.
30 days, two capsules per day
Plant extracts depend on regularity, not individual servings. 60 capsules cover one full month – a fixed time is more useful than any dose adjustment.
Customer Reviews
FAQs
How much St John’s Wort extract is included?
300 mg per daily serving of two capsules, equivalent to 150 mg per capsule. The extract is standardised to 0.3% hypericins, so the daily serving provides 0.9 mg of hypericins.
What does “0.3% hypericins” mean?
Hypericins are the marker compounds of St John’s Wort – they serve as a measure of how concentrated an extract is. Their content varies considerably depending on the raw material and manufacturing process, which is why high-quality extracts are standardised to a fixed value. Ours is 0.3%, equivalent to 0.9 mg of hypericins per daily serving. If a supplier states only the amount of extract, the question of quality remains unanswered.
Why is the plant called St John’s Wort?
Because it flowers around St John’s Day on 24 June. When the yellow flowers are rubbed between the fingers, a red pigment emerges – hence the old name bloodwort. Its botanical name is Hypericum perforatum; “perforatum” refers to the oil glands in the leaves, which look like holes when held up to the light.
Can I take the product with the contraceptive pill?
No. St John’s Wort can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. This also applies to a range of other medicines, including anticoagulants, immunosuppressants and certain HIV and cancer medicines. If you regularly take medication, please seek medical advice before use.
Do I need to take any precautions in the sun?
Yes. St John’s Wort can increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid intense sun exposure and sunbeds while taking it – this applies particularly to people with fair skin.
What does L-Tryptophan do in the formula?
L-Tryptophan is one of the eight essential amino acids – the body cannot produce it itself and depends on dietary intake. It is the starting material from which serotonin is formed and, in turn, melatonin. The product contains 200 mg per daily serving; dietary sources include primarily cheese, nuts, oats, pulses and cocoa.
Why add Ashwagandha and passionflower?
Because both were used in their respective traditions for situations similar to those for which St John’s Wort was used in Europe – Ashwagandha in Indian Ayurveda, and passionflower in the folk medicine of the Americas. The daily serving contains 200 mg of Ashwagandha root extract, exclusively from the root, and 100 mg of passionflower extract.
What role does vitamin B1 play?
Vitamin B1 contributes to normal psychological function, the normal functioning of the nervous system, normal energy-yielding metabolism and the normal function of the heart. The product contains 0.6 mg per daily serving, equivalent to 54% of the nutrient reference value.
When is the best time to take the capsules?
Take two capsules daily with sufficient liquid, in the morning or evening – more important than the time is keeping it consistent. Plant extracts depend on regularity.
Is the product vegan?
Yes – and it is also gluten-free, lactose-free and soya-free. The capsule shell is also made from plant-based hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
How long does one bottle last?
30 days. At two capsules daily, 60 capsules last for one full month.
Who is this product not suitable for?
Not suitable for children and adolescents, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or people with liver disease. Also do not take it together with antidepressants, and seek medical advice before use if you regularly take medication.
